Cosplay is not mandatory at any of our live events, but cosplayers are welcome and we encourage everyone to portray their favourite characters! Cosplay is permitted in all areas of the theatre, we just ask that you be mindful of your costume size so it does not prevent others from watching the show.
Hai Festival is pleased to announce that we have organised a Cosplay Showcase for any willing participants to have their cosplays shown on stage and a raffle prize system to give away various prizes. The Cosplay Showcase will take place during session two. Admittance to the Cosplay Showcase will be for ticket holders and pre-registraion only.
For this festival, we ask that weapons not be brought as we have no way of checking and tagging the weapons with the small team we have. We are hopeful for our next event to have a dedicated cosplay team to check-in weapons and sign off on the sizes. If you are to bring a weapon as part of your cosplay – swords must be made with foam/wood and be of a style that would not cause physical harm to others. Guns must have an orange cap on the end to present that they are fake. Nerf guns and those styles that shoot projectiles will not be permitted.
The agreement we have in place with the venue is that no body paint is allowed. The chairs that have been provided are material chairs and the venue does not want potential staining to happen. This would also impose additional cleaning fees on to Hai Festival and could prevent us from hosting events in the future.
All attendees are reminded any interaction with any cosplayer is that “cosplay is not consent”. No cosplayer should be involved in any activity which they do not wish to be a part of, and everyone should be always respectful of all attendees. This extends beyond our venue, respect those around you at all times. No harassment of any kind will be tolerated by management; failure to abide to this will result you in being escorted from the venue by security and you may be banned from the venue itself and not permitted to attend future Hai Entertainment events. Serious matters may be referred onto the appropriate authorities along with physical evidence and statements.
The safety of all attendees is paramount to management. The materials used in your cosplay and your cosplay itself must be suitable for a general audience of all ages. Cosplays which incorporate nudity or which reference offensive, or inflammatory subject matters will not be permitted within the venue. Similarly, to standard clothing, cosplay clothing items should not be able to be easily removed by other attendees.
For health & safety reasons, no skates, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, “heelies”, or any form of bladed or wheeled footwear is permitted within any Hai Entertainment venue. These may be carried as props for a costume but must not be left unattended at any time. Cosplay apparel should not have any leading edges which could cause contact injury to other attendees.
Whilst it may seem obvious, your costume shouldn't cause you or others any physical pain, injury, or damage whilst you wear it. If your cosplay is too large, is difficult to manoeuvre, restricts vision, or otherwise requires aid to be transported or worn from one part of the venue to another, please bring a designated companion with you to always escort you around.
Your costume and props should be able to fit through a normal door unhindered and should not be so large as to encumber yourself or others.
